Despite the fact that I seem to have a natural affinity for them, I have been bitten a few times too... nothing serious, but a couple occasions could have been ugly if I hadn't figured out how to manage them effectively. Winging it worked, but I've never really felt confident that I knew what to do to stave off a dog attack until now. Written by a guy who is not only a Hall of Fame martial artist and veteran law enforcement officer, but also a military-trained dog handler, this is the best resource I've ever seen on the subject. It is clear, easy to read, well illustrated, and backed up by veterinary science.Dogs bite nearly 5 million people every year. While most incidents are minor chomps, savage attacks seem to pop up in the news with alarming frequency. While many of these horrific incidents are the result of careless dog owners, some maimings and fatalities are due to deliberate, criminal actions. But it doesn't really matter if you are the victim. What is important is learning how not to get hurt. Packed potentially life-saving information, this comprehensive treatise does exactly that. It's very well done!Lawrence KaneAuthor of Surviving Armed Assaults and a host of other books

Loads of Great Basic Information Concerning Dog Attacks By Shawn Kovacich Well I just finished this really well done e-book by the author concerning defending oneself against dog attacks and I have to say that it was really loaded with a lot of sound and practical information concerning attacks by various breeds of dogs. One must always remember that, for the most part, our friendly family pet and "man's best friend" all were once wild wolves that man in his infinite wisdom (absolutely no pun intended) decided to tame and make them part of the household. Even though dogs have been domesticated and made family pets for hundreds of years, they are still animals and will bite when they feel threatened or are provoked.I recall watching a series of episodes on the History Channel last year entitled, Life After People where the producers gave us a glimpse into what would happen on our planet Earth if people suddenly disappeared. One segment focused on what would happen to our pet cats and dogs. Small dogs who were locked up in the house would eventually starve to death without access to food and water. If they were able to get out of a locked enclosure, they would likely end up as a food source for bigger dogs or wild animals. Larger dogs and medium sized dogs would group together in packs and would revert to their wolf-like state fairly quickly within a matter of days or weeks for protection and survival. Just look at some of the recent news stories where packs of wild dogs have attacked smaller animals and people in packs. It happens all the time, and they don't even have to be in large numbers. The author provides a lot of basic useful information in this e-book and I feel it is very important information that everyone needs to know regardless of stature, family situation, social status, etc. Everyone, and I do mean everyone, has contact with dogs on a regular basis, whether it is your dog, a neighbors dog, etc. Even the smaller breed of dogs, which according to the United States Postal Service are the ones more likely to bite mail carriers, can cause a lot of damage if they sink their little teeth into your leg or hand. Most of the advise for dealing with an aggressive dog is fairly simple and pretty straightforward as long as the dog isn't actually attacking you, but merely being aggressive, which can quickly turn into an actual attack so don't get complacent. However, things can and do get really ugly during an actual attack, and the ugly usually happens to what ever portion of your body the dog has decided to start gnawing on.Now I am a HUGE animal lover and will not and do not tolerate abuse to animals under any circumstances, so please heed my advise and DO NOT for one instance consider any of the information contained in this e-book to be animal abuse in any shape of form. I personally know the author and he would never infer or imply any such thing. He is an animal lover as well and only offers this information as a means of self-defense in case you are the victim of a violent dog attack. I can pretty much guarantee you that no matter how big an animal lover you are, if a vicious dog is intent on making a meal out of you or the dead and dying corpse or your child or loved one, you will do whatever you can to make sure that doesn't happen. And well you should! The only thing I would have liked to see more of in this e-book would have been a bit more detailed illustration and text concerning the more vulnerable points of the canine anatomy in order to be better prepared in case of a vicious dog attack. Other than that one very small concern, I feel that this was a very well done and informative body of work on a subject I have seen very little of in the past 30 years. Well I guess there are two things I would like to have seen more of, the second would have been more detailed use of a knife and/or gun against a vicious dog attack.I had one final parting thought on this subject, and it is this; dogs and humans are both species of animals. One shouldn't wish to harm either one, unless your very survival and those of your loved ones are in danger. A vicious dog is unreasoning and has a mouth full of edged weapons that can and will inflict a lot of damage, so get out of the "warm fuzzy bunny" mentality and take the proper precautions.Shawn Kovacich100% Animal LoverMartial Artist/Krav Maga InstructorNRA Firearms InstructorAuthor and Creator of numerous books and DVD's.
