About the Author Lisa Kemmerer, PhD, is a philosopher-activist, artist, and lover of wild places, who has hiked, biked, kayaked, backpacked, and travelled widely. She is the author of In Search of Consistency: Ethics and Animals (Brill 2006) and Religion and Animals: Rightful Relations (Oxford 2011), and has edited several other anthologies, including Sister Species: Women, Animals, and Social Justice (U. of Illinois Press 2011). Kemmerer is currently associate professor of philosophy and religions at Montana State University Billings.

Moore I've only read a few of the other essays so far, but they've really inspired me to do more to help animals. These woman have heart. I hope the book motivates other women--and men--to work in the animal protection field, or to speak out for animals wherever else they have the chance.

Speaking Up For Animals: An Anthology of Women's Voices By Deborah Lisa did an incredible job of making all of these eclectic essays meld into one theme. Saving the animals...some by crusades, some by education and some just by being who they are and who they have become. Life brings some to a mission of dedication. These people don't just love these animals, they care about the futures of the species. High five to all of them...

Inspirational and engaging By Lindsay Post It would be nearly impossible not to be moved to compassion and to action by these heartfelt accounts of how animals suffer in cruel industries. The courage and conviction of the authors are an inspiration to both seasoned activists and those who are new to animal rights. Highly recommended!
