0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Excellent short read on YOGA. By S Jackson This was a very quick read for me. I was a huge yoga enthusiasts several years ago. And I let it disappear. Which is such a shame- because it greatly improved ALL aspects of my life.This book was a nice reminder that I need to get back to it. There are a few moves that are explained for beginners- but also great reminders for people who need to get back into the practice.I like that it has sections that explain different purposes for yoga- like yoga for weight loss, walking meditation, or yoga for happiness, yoga for stress relief. It also has a section on preparation. Water people! Always stay hydrated! Here in Colorado, I always have a bottle of water with me while I am doing yoga as well. And when you finish- keep drinking water. Your muscles need it! The more water the better! Or else you will be more sore than you ever imagined! The one thing the book doesn't explain enough is food. If I go into a yoga session that is going to last an hour and half- I don't eat 3 hours before hand- unless it is a simple protein shake. Having a belly full of food and trying to do yoga is a nightmare! Especially while doing it in a class. Stick to very light food prior to yoga. Then have plenty of protein afterwards with potassium to help with muscle cramps. My favorite after yoga meal is a cesear salad (no dressing on the side-pour it all over!- you just burned a ton of calories!) with chicken or salmon. A banana. Sometimes I add nuts or berries to the salad. At least two glasses of water- an occasionally a glass of white wine ;) I say occasionally because my endorphins are pumping after a long yoga workout- who needs wine?! Without a nice meal afterward, you are going to feel like crap.But I like that this book takes you into slowly. The wonderful thing about yoga- you can do it anywhere! And for any length of time! In this book-pay special attention to when they tell you to breath. Breathing in yoga is crucial. The movements and breath go hand and hand. I LOVE pushing myself to the edge of a pose by taking one more deep breath in and breathing out slowing as I push harder. Amazing feeling!My favorite section is yoga as a life choice. When you fully embrace yoga you find stress relief, happiness, calmness, inner peace, gratitude- all of it. I do not follow any particular religion, however, practicing yoga brings me to higher conscious state of the spiritual self.This is a wonderful book, like I said, quick and easy to read. Very motivating! Time to get off the couch and try a few moves. A simple sun salutation will really improve your mood! Read this!This book was advertised as free- and I couldn't pass it up. So I got it! This is an honest review of the book.

It always made me sleepy. That's why I looked for books that would help me realize what the benefits I can get from doing yoga aside from weight loss for me to be inspired doing it more often.I'm rating this book a 4-star! It's a little bit shorter than I thought it should be. But, I can say this book is educational and informative. It combined meditation and yoga uniquely. There are things I really did not know about yoga that made me love it more now than before. Aside from weight loss, we can also be relieved from stress and achieved happiness all with the help of yoga and meditation. I learned that yoga doesn't just help us with our fitness levels but also helps our mental understanding and brings us very close to being one with the world that we live in as having mind and body working in harmony. Despite a few formatting issues, the book still provided me more than enough information to practice yoga and meditation well.Thank you for writing this, Joanne! I still wish to read more from your works.

My friend had been a Yoga enthusiast for 4 years and he invited me to attend a Yoga convention. I already have an idea what Yoga is but I didn’t really care about trying it. It all changed when I started working in an accounting firm…the stress level was way beyond normal. My life was deteriorating passing day because of work. One day I decided to give Yoga a try and asked my friend if I could join him on his next Yoga class.I felt great after doing a few Yoga sessions and decided I’ll buy myself a book about Yoga….and here I am doing the review after buying this book. This book is a great eye-opener for me… I was able to understand the very concepts and ideas about Yoga. Although it only provided the basic Yoga poses yet it is very effective and the instructions are very clear. The only drawback I see in this book is that it lacks some illustrations on some poses…other than that I’m good with this book.
