Lyme disease is reaching endemic proportions yet remains a mystery. How can we know what to do when even top experts cannot come to a consensus on key questions: Do reoccurring symptoms indicate Chronic Lyme or Post Lyme? Is “Herxing” a good thing? Can the infection be completely eradicated with antibiotics? How about herbs? Diet? The conflicting advice often leaves patients afflicted by multiple symptoms years into treatment. Want to read something authentic, transparent and different than your ordinary book on Lyme? Metabolism – a hugely underrated aspect of Lyme recovery – is the breakdown and build-up of all sorts of things such as nutrients, drugs, and muscles. It correlates with better digestion, nutrient absorption, cellular communication, endocrine and hormone function, body temperature regulation, drug n’ bug detoxification, immunity and more. This book will explain how a healthy metabolism can strengthen your constitution, helping you get to – and stay in – remission. Independent medical researcher Yessi Young has an immense understanding of this debilitating illness that stems from a background in research and a personal history of living with Lyme disease. In this no-fluff book, she advocates science-based, practical, affordable, and personalized ways to get into remission and stay there. Young’s crude humor will surely keep you engaged from start to finish.

This book covers Lyme and co from an angle that I think is missed by almost all Lyme "experts" - the importance of supporting healthy metabolic function primarily by not starving oneself. It's so obvious that starving oneself is counterproductive to healing. And yet, so many popular experts advocate for highly restrictive diets that regardless of how perfect they may be, ultimately starve those who follow those diets. So I am very, very, very enthusiastic that this book points out the follies of trying to starve Lyme and co.2. Author Yessi Young expresses what she knows without condescending or trying to prove her expert status. She uses a friendly tone and expresses understanding and sympathy.3. Yessi acknowledges the elephant in the room - something that too few have done in their race to be experts: Lyme and co is complicated and NOBODY has all the answers. That in and of itself should be a huge relief to those of us with long term Lyme and co. Yes, it's disappointing that there are no easy, one-size-fits-all answers. But on the other hand, when more and more experts have to finally admit that Lyme and co is complicated and that nobody yet has all the answers, THEN there is the possibility of all the experts actually coming together in the spirit of healing and service. So bravo to Yessi for taking the lead. Let's hope that more follow.I recommend this book to all who are struggling with Lyme and co. It's a short read and highly approachable. It's not a cut and paste formula. It's not yet another "protocol". It's a thoughtful book that may help in ways the other books you've read haven't.

My struggles with Lyme disease taught me to appreciate balance. For me, restoring my body to balance is vital, the key to recovery. I am no longer ill, I am recovering. Young's book points us towards low metabolism as the key to recovery. You have to start somewhere and this makes perfect sense to me. She mentions the use of drugs, I don't use them. I also don't take supplements, but instead use super foods. This jewel of a book will serve anyone struggling with chronic illness.

So this book was a very pleasant surprise! The author shares her experience and presents A very balanced view of the issues faced by patients in their search for recovery. Her approach to diet is eclectic and unbiased. She talks about how to individualize and determine what works for you to while supporting a healthy metabolism. Science is presented clearly, even if it is a bit technical for the average, nonscientist reader.
