By Max Rower Low residue diet is a diet that limits high-fiber foods, like whole-grain breads and cereals, nuts, seeds, raw or dried fruits, and vegetables. Residue refers to undigested food, including fiber, that makes up stool. The goal of the diet is to have fewer, smaller bowel movements each day. That will ease symptoms such as diarrhea, bloating, gas, and stomach cramping. Your doctor may recommend this diet for a short time when you're having a flare, or after surgery to help with recovery. But it's not a general eating plan for all people with inflammatory bowel disease. As long as you follow the general guidelines for the diet, you can mix and match as you like. There are many meal options to choose from on a low-residue diet. If you enjoy whole grains, nuts, and raw fruits and vegetables, shifting to a low-residue diet may be hard. But if you prefer white bread and pasta, don't mind canned fruits and vegetables, and are happy to snack on saltines and vanilla wafers, it may come naturally, but remember, this isn’t a healthy way to eat for a long time because it skips many important nutrients. If you need to stay on this diet, talk with your doctor and a registered dietitian to make sure you're getting all the nutrients you need. This book has been specifically designed and written for people who have been suffering with bowel inflammation or diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease. This book helps address the issue of diet and foods for those with IBS. IBS sufferers will be thrilled to discover that they can enjoy traditional homestyle cooking, ethnic foods, rich desserts, snacks, and party foods - and don't have to cook weird or special meals for themselves while their families follow a "normal" diet. Thumbs up.

After trying a few of these recipes and loving the results I'm excited to really work my way through this excellent cookbook. I would highly recommend this book to anyone following this type of diet. So many great options to choose from inside!
