This book is an emotional trip for those who still get goose bumps by "rococo" style of writing. Their minds were not of their time... they were amazing individuals. If you are tired of mundane language and thought... Close your eyes, buy this book and never look back.. you won't be disappointed.

While it should seem a meeting of equals-- one does feel unmistakably that the younger Flaubert quite looks up to & idolizes the older Sand. While there is a certain amount of 19th century 'floral arrangement' one always has to pick thru with such period pieces... the candy drops and tarts littered throughout this correspondence of titans more than makes it all the worthwhile.

Their letters to each other gave me an insight into their creative as well as personal lives. I highly recommend it to people who are accustomed to the best in literate.Martha N. Fried
