I used it during my graduate work back in the early 70's and found its review of mathematical principles and its application of those principles to economics most understandable and useful. It remains relevant.

As a young child, I could see and hear witches in my closet. This was the first clue something was wrong with me. There were early signs of my mental diseases but they were not severely manifested until my father's suicide when I was a teen. After that my schizophrenia manic-depression, depression and panic attacks took over and my drug and alcohol abuse began. This is a story of a woman who had no hope. At age 45, I found the power, with the Lord's help, to recover from drugs, alcohol and my mental diseases. It was not an easy journey and had many facets including family murders, living in an ashram, relapses and spirit guides. I have always been spiritual and have had a close relationship with the Lord. It was thru my faith and trust in God that I was healed. I will do everything I can for God and Christ because they gave me a new life. The prize for this new life is freedom from bondage of self and self-will. Alcohol is a crutch to many people with mental disease. It becomes a vicious circle and is an added challenge to stay sober. This book can provide hope for many who suffer the way I did. "The Swing of Life" Life is funny in many ways it's like a swing that continually sways, Sometimes it seems we're up so high that we could reach and touch the sky And then at times it swings so low, we wear a smile so no one knows.

About the Author

Julian Fitter is a naturalist, conservationist, writer and lecturer with a particular interest in island ecosystems. Having been educated in the UK, Julian spent the next fifteen years in the Laboratory of Evolution in the Galapagos Islands, where he established and ran the first yacht charter operation when the islands received only a few hundred visitors each year. After that he spent time in the Falkland Islands, and more recently in Tristan da Cunha and New Zealand.

David Hosking is a wildlife photographer who, together with his wife Jean, runs the Frank Lane Picture Agency, one of Britain's most prominent natural history photo libraries. He also runs Hosking Tours Ltd, a company that specialises in nature photographic holidays.

LaBarca If you plan to visit the Galapagos Islands, this is the book to bring with you. This field guide covered all of the major highlights of the Galapagos (animals, plants, geology...) as well as give detail about everything you could possibly find on these islands. The entire book is printed on stury, glossy paper, with bright colorful pictures.Overall this is a must have if you plan to go to the Galapagos. When I went I brought the book with me everywhere. It was small enough to fit in a big side pocket or a small bag. Everything about this book is just logical; the size, the order, and even the type of paper it is printed on. The only other thing you need after getting this book is a mechanical pencil & a geology field notebook (waterproof) - along with a ziplock bag for your field guide & camera (this is for when you go on the pangas).

Written by people who truly know the Galapagos Islands and all that exists there, including landings and information on what one can expect to see on arrival at any one island. I actually used three other guides whilst in the Galapago this month and only accessed this one at the end of my trip. I have continued to read this book since arriving home and highly recommend it.

Centanni Anybody planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands needs to have this book in their pocket while on the islands. The photographs of plants and animals alike are as realistic as you will see on the islands and such reality will allow one to easily identify the wealth of species you will encounter. Descriptions of individual species include a listing of which island(s) the plant or animal is typically found. Added features in this book include maps of the islands with trails and listings of what to look for; tips on photography; and guidelines for respecting the national park and being a responsible visitor to the islands.

About the Author Known as a loving husband, father, and loyal friend by family and friends and a dedicated contractor by clients and associates, Larry Martel now begins a new chapter. Southwestern prehistory in brief By Bob The Mogollon people, along with other ethnic groups, flourished at Grasshopper Pueblo in the Arizona mountains for an astonishingly brief few generations from around 1300 to 1400. This followed the Great Drought of the late 1200s, an event which changed prehistoric life in the American southwest. Authors Reid and Whittlesey conceived of their book as a popular synthesis, distilling for a general audience 30 yrs of archaeological research at Grasshopper Pueblo. And the book is certifiably general, often frustratingly so. Practically every page includes some reference to life at Grasshopper Pueblo that could/should have been amplified. Here are random examples:* The authors describe the period prior to the founding of Grasshopper Pueblo as being characterized by "elaboration of the mountain adaptive pattern and by the continuation of regional differences" (p. 17). Which is a rather dry way to describe the intriguing notion that archeology can infer evolution and variation in life style of a mobile people inhabiting only several hundreds of square miles -- a notion many readers will want to hear more about and, perhaps, need to know about, in order to understand the meaning and value of southwestern archeology.* "The 1300s mark a special time in Mogollon prehistory when the mountains of Arizona experienced the largest year-round population ever" (p. 62). But doesn't the current population of the region (at least) deserve to hear the authors' estimate of what the largest population might have been? or to be given a statistic on the region's current population, as a benchmark for appreciating prehistory?* "The threefold division of the main pueblo into room blocks and plazas continued throughout the Aggregation period and was accompanied by distinctions in architecture, use of fuel wood, diet, and other differences, indicating that the people living in each room block maintained particular ways of doing things that may have been a product of their different origins or affiliations" (p. 116). Wow -- How could the authors *not* explicate the methodology, data and alternative interpretations pertaining to every facet of that prehistoric pluralistic society? is anything like it seen among historic puebloan people?The authors restrain themselves throughout the book, presenting only the broadest sketch of their and other's findings. Also problematically, the authors unconvincingly apply the archeological concepts of aggregation and abandonment to the history of the University of Arizona Field School, which convened each summer at Grasshopper Pueblo for 30 yrs. And lastly, the text is maddeningly repetitive, as if paragraphs were independently written and then collated, without regard to the duplication of material -- Where was the editor?Overall, the book provides an introduction to the archeology of Grasshopper Pueblo. Many readers will be intrigued by the cohabitation of Mogollon and Anasazi peoples and by the peoples' remarkably poor health, but I suspect only introductory readers of southwestern prehistory will benefit greatly from most of the book's narrative.Bob Niles

Introductory readers of southwestern prehistory will benefit greatly from most of this book's narrative. I took an anthropology course from the author of this book, while a student at the University of AZ (I'm a 2008 graduate with a BFA from the College of Fine Arts). Dr. J. J. Reid is an excellent instructor, especially since he has done a dig at the Grasshopper Pueblo. Interesting book and I would recommend it to anyone interested in anthropology. B. Best.

Stephanie had to save face, with a large crowd of family and friends she advised Stank that from this point he should not chose his battles lightly in concern to her, while leaning in to assure the heat from her breathe moistened his ear. He'd known the entire time, he had been the other women they dissected and demeaned. He'd always been the other woman; Stephanie began to quiver at the entire betrayal. Stank had been out of the closet for over 15 years. Stephanie always encouraged him toward seeking the Lord in order to see he was a man, made for a woman. She often wondered why a man that likes a man acts like a woman to validate their choice, as if a bent wrist, high voice, wig and attitude meant God was suppose to give them a vagina or vice versa. She had always considered a form of mental illness when someone is uncomfortable in their own skin. A spiritual confusion that suggest that God made a mistake in His omnipotent decision of gender. Many pondered the desire of self love as spoken of in the Bible as not only men and women being lovers of themselves and the perversion and damnation attached to it. Stephanie’s best guess was just that: a lack of or over affection by one parent, bad influences, molestation, generational curse or spiritual confusion. It was a sin just as any other; God could forgive them if they returned to His will for them but it would take her more time to. At this moment the 38 year old pondered every decision she ever made, the love they made and her capacity as a lover to move on. Was she somewhat manly herself? Regardless what could not be erased was he had always been the other woman. But after all the talking, all the praying and all the professing Stephanie realized she had been counseled by everyone but the Lord. How would she go about telling her girls about all the sudden changes for them, the move and new school before someone picked at them? How would she convince herself to go and get tested, she had remained faithful for 15 years so how did she explain to her doctor that she was now a high risk for HIV. She was so angry with Antonio that she never asked him if he had been tested. Stephanie was too angry with Stanky to care if he had been tested and with all the things she had heard of him she was almost certain he did have it. It was a mental prison to wish that death sentence on someone else while begging that you have dodged a bullet.

George Bernard Shaw was an Irish playwright, socialist, and a co-founder of the London School of Economics. Although his first profitable writing was music and literary criticism, in which capacity he wrote many highly articulate pieces of journalism, his main talent was for drama. Over the course of his life he wrote more than 60 plays. Nearly all his plays address prevailing social problems, but each also includes a vein of comedy that makes their stark themes more palatable. In these works Shaw examined education, marriage, religion, government, health care, and class privilege. An ardent socialist, Shaw was angered by what he perceived to be the exploitation of the working class. He wrote many brochures and speeches for the Fabian Society. He became an accomplished orator in the furtherance of its causes, which included gaining equal rights for men and women, alleviating abuses of the working class, rescinding private ownership of productive land, and promoting healthy lifestyles. For a short time he was active in local politics, serving on the London County Council. In 1898, Shaw married Charlotte Payne-Townshend, a fellow Fabian, whom he survived. They settled in Ayot St. Lawrence in a house now called Shaw's Corner. He is the only person to have been awarded both a Nobel Prize for Literature (1925) and an Oscar (1938). The former for his contributions to literature and the latter for his work on the film "Pygmalion" (adaptation of his play of the same name). Shaw wanted to refuse his Nobel Prize outright, as he had no desire for public honours, but he accepted it at his wife's behest. She considered it a tribute to Ireland. He did reject the monetary award, requesting it be used to finance translation of Swedish books to English. Shaw died at Shaw's Corner, aged 94, from chronic health problems exacerbated by injuries incurred by falling.

About the Author BERNARD SHAW was born in Dublin in 1856. After his arrival in London in 1876 he became an active Socialist and a brilliant platform speaker. He wrote on many social aspects of the day: on Common Sense about the War (1914), How to Settle the Irish Question (1917) and The Intelligent Woman's Guide to Socialism and Capitalism (1928). He undertook his own education at the British Museum and consequently became keenly interested in cultural subjects. Thus his prolific output included music, art and theatre reviews, which were collected into several volumes such as Music in London 1890-1894 (3 vols, 1931); Pen Portraits and Reviews (1931); and Our Theatres in the Nineties (3 vols, 1931). He also wrote five novels and some shorter fiction, including The Black Girl in Search of God and Some Lesser Tales and Cashel Byron's Profession, both published in Penguin's Bernard Shaw Library. He conducted a strong attack on the London theatre and was closely associated with the intellectual revival of British theatre. His plays fall into several categories: 'Plays Pleasant'; 'Plays Unpleasant'; comedies; chronicle-plays; 'metabiological Pentateuch' (Back to Methuselah, a series of plays); and 'political extravaganzas'. Bernard Shaw died in 1950.

In the case of Androcles and the Lion, the preface is Shaw's disquisition on Christianity -- he explains it and the Gospels, in his inimitable way -- for over a hundred pages. The preface to Androcles and the Lion is one of Shaw's masterpieces...and is MISSING from this edition. Could it possibly be that this is because those putting this travesty of Shaw's work out do not want Christian readers seeing Shaw's explanation?

Sanctity of forced conversions By Claude Lambert You can count on Shaw to depict conversion like this: there is a big fighter coming along and shaking you up until he converts you. Later on, we call the man a saint. It is outrageous, and funny. It is also mainly true: Europe was converted to christianity more by the will of kings and armies than by the internal musings of the population. Shaw has an explanation for miracles too. I do not think you need to read the preface to get the gist of what he says. Most of the prefaces of his plays are long, interesting and dated. There is no preface in this edition. Shaw makes his philosophical positions very clear in his work, for instance in the Preface of Mrs. Warren's Profession he says that he had "no respect for popular morality, no beief in popular religion, no admiration for popular heroics."But you do not have to share Shaw's views to enjoy the plays. Nowadays, you can like a cartoon from the NewYorker without betraying what you belive in, or enjoy any humorist you see on TV. We laugh because there is some truth behind what the humorist says. Usually, we don't change our political or religious views because of it.Enjoy the play. If you want to know more about what Shaw believed in, buy more books. Live a little. This is fun, you'll never forget Androcles and his wonderful lion.

6 of 7 people found the following review helpful. A Publishing Disappointment By Bibliophiledw I was really looking forward to this book as the ocean is my Soul Food. Terribly disappointed and have to put the blame for that on the publisher - National Geographic of all! The worst part was the type and the placement of photo descriptions. Forget now, bc I only had it a matter of hours before returning it. In places the type was Bold - possibly headings. GOOD! But then for some bizarre reason the further description was grayed out on white pages. Difficult to read. Also after the cover which had me drooling over "The More" to be inside, there just were not enough photos of these Pristine areas for me. The other thing I didn't like that was also a publishing decision was that more often than not the description was not ON the photo pg and not even on the overleaf - sometimes several pgs distant. I've never seen a photography book laid out that way where one had to nearly hunt for the description, go back to that page to connect some specifics, etc. No. Did not like it at all. The Seller was terrific in refunding the purchase and accepting the book's return.

This beautiful book is a real treasure of pictures and information. There are well over 100 stunning colour photographs of life in the oceans and the book is forwarded by the hugely popular actor Leonardo DiCaprio. It's a gorgeous and weighty hardback that is an absolute pleasure to read and/or just sit and enjoy the fantastic photographs. Highly recommended to anyone who loves the sea or cares about the conservation of our oceans and associated sea-life.In 2008 Enric Sala joined the ranks of National Geographic explorers and started the Pristine Seas project (visit pristineseas.org). In the book we visit 10 places around the world where the seas can be described as still 'Pristine'. Enric Sala, his team and their key partners have joined efforts with some success to inspire country leaders to protect these remaining pristine sea locations.At each location the book provides maps and dazzlingly wonderful colour photographs of sea animals, plant and fish species. Many of these places are wild and untouched providing perfect environments to allow many unique photo opportunities. There is geographical information and details of the dives and findings. Many of these places under the water have never been visited by man before.In his forward Leonardo DiCaprio writes 'Losing the wildest places in our oceans, and on our planet, is not just a crime against nature - it's a crime against every species on Earth. Pristine Seas gives me hope and proves that our oceans can be protected for generations to come'. This is a beautiful book memorable for its message and glorious images. I can assure you, he is looking on from somewhere and loving this book. And maybe even envying it a little bit.Jacques would envy it because of the combination of beauty and brains. For beauty I’m not talking about the author (though he has been compared to Antonio Banderas for his good looks). I’m talking about the gorgeous, “oh my goodness,” photos that range from a “bold snapper” staring at you from Pitcairn Island to fisheye shots of leaf corals at Ducie Atoll — from schooling hammerhead sharks at Cocos Island to close-ups of seahorses. Suffice it to say the book is a visual splendor. Yet there’s much more.Enric Sala has ventured to the far corners of the oceans in a way that few have since Cousteau. He has discovered relatively pristine ecosystems in some of the less visited locations like Sala y Gomez and the Line Islands. His travels are amazing as he takes us to so many truly obscure ocean locations — like the Desventuradas — the Unfortunate Islands — somewhere in the middle of nowhere off of Chile. I found myself looking closely at the maps, thinking, “What in the … I never knew this place existed."But the thing that Jacques would have envied most is the brain power behind the text. This is not your typical tourist book for nature. It’s the voice of the cutting edge of knowledge on our planet regarding how the world’s oceans are doing. And guess what ...The news is actually fairly inspiring. Despite centuries of abuse, there are signs we may be able to put the skids on the decline and pull the oceans up out of the nose dive everyone feared was happening a decade ago. That’s the conclusion you come to by the time you finish reading the book. And more importantly, the National Geographic Pristine Seas program that produced the book is working to double the amount of ocean area around the world under protection.If anyone is qualified to give an overall assessment of the oceans it is veteran marine biologist Enric Sala. It’s a great book, and only fitting that he opens it with the forward from Leonardo DiCaprio, who has himself been fighting for decades to protect nature. Then, near the end of the book, Sala quotes the other famous Leonardo (Da Vinci) who said that some day people will see the murder of an animal, “as they now see the murder of a man.”Things are changing, there is hope for the oceans, and this book does an excellent job of capturing that optimism. It is a landmark achievement, that Jacques Cousteau truly would have applauded.

By keepergirl73 This book is great, because it teaches you how to still eat foods you love and exercise and still gain a perfect body. While diets like Paleo, Weight Watcher, Atkins, clean eating, and so on say that you can only eat certain foods and have to avoid things you love to eat, the IIFYM diet - short for If It Fits Your Macros - gives you more flexibility, because it is, indeed, a flexible diet. What's even nicer is that it includes a nice set of recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with the nutritional information that you need to focus on for this diet.In the chapters about workout and exercise, there are specific exercises suggested and described for the very beginning of the program to the end, where more expert level exercises are provided. That was especially nice for me, but I don't have the funds necessary to go to a gym, but don't know what exercises are good for me outside of jumping jacks and sit-ups.

It measures​ the exact amount of intake you need for the day and get it by eating what you want. There are some basic rules but overall this book teaches you how to get to your target weight by tracking how much you eat. This book is for people who want to lose, to gain or to maintain weight by following very simple instructions and basic principles. Some very common sense type principles in this one, that, applied individually will be helpful to many. Excellent read!

By Kourtney Kane This is book isn't exactly a weight loss book but it is a book which will help you achieve the perfect body through proper consumption. Weight loss may be a part of the process but its not a final goal. The book explains properly what kind of plan we will be adapting. It gives details in calories so that the consumption is accounted for properly. The book also has some recipes which are very useful and their calorie details have been given as well. There is a workout schedule included as well.Overall, I am satisfied with the book and the way it covers everything. I highly recommend it.
