About the Author Amy sustained a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in February of 2014 after falling on a patch of ice and landing full-force on the back of her skull. She is still recovering and understanding the full scope of her injury. She is an author, professional photographer, and creative coach located in Saint Paul, MN. She is a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post, and a loud and proud advocate for TBI awareness. She travels the country with her Yorkie, Pixxie, and brings awareness everywhere she goes! She believes that the healing process begins with the telling of your story, releasing everything that you’ve been bottling up inside. Her goal is to tell other survivors stories, and share their images. TBI is an invisible disability that many don’t understand. She wants to bring an awareness and understanding to the world, and hopes that people will have more compassion for those who look seemingly fine (but inside are struggling with memory or cognitive issues, such as herself). She is addicted to Starbucks, Miss Me jeans, and all things pink and glittery.

Excellent book for anyone touched by TBI By Mike This is the perfect book for the survivor or caregiver who wants to gain an understanding of what it means to have a brain injury, what it feels like, and how to begin to navigate one's path of growth from this time forward. Ms. Zellmer has poured her heart and soul into this account of her first year of living with a brain injury. By Steve Life With a Traumatic Brain Injury: Finding the Road Back to Normal, a book by Amy Zellmer, is divided into two parts—the past and then the future—finding the road back to “normal.”The chapters were originally seen on The Huffington Post, and Amy tells how shocking it was to see how many people were reading her first post, and quickly became followers. After reading the book, it is obvious. Amy so vividly puts into words what those who’ve had a traumatic brain injury (TBI) feel and have experienced.The book, as I see it, has two goals achieved beautifully. 1) To tell those with a TBI that they are not alone. She’s has been there and understands their experiences. 2) This is a tremendously helpful guide for those who have a loved one with a TBI, detailing both physical and emotional aftereffects of this concussion.If every13 seconds someone in the U.S. gets a concussion (and all concussions cause some damage to the brain), then you and I know more than one person who has or is suffering the results. The statistics are alarming, and every day we hear of another professional or youth athlete having a TBI. Some of the older retired athletes are dealing with the results of long-ago injury.An invisible injury makes these people subject to others’ doubt as they look good and can handle much of their normal life, that is until … one day when they get confused or lost or ultra emotional or have a personality change or whatever way it shows for that person.I feel so much better informed and extremely empathetic to the 2.5 million people who sustain a TBI every year—and I am sure if I asked the right question, I’d be shocked who among my friends have had a TBI, but kept quiet about it.

I will because the author was kind enough to send me a copy of this book. I am the wife of a man with a TBI , tho his was thru brain surgery, not an accident.... with a 1 % chance of surviving surgery. ( i met and married him years after ) I read it aloud to him and for the FIRST time in years i saw that he was thrilled that someone 'got' it. I NEEDED this book to change MY perspective in daily life with him. No two cases are the same....true. Yet there are similarities that tie all TBI victims together. I had to smile as i read because he just kept nodding and interrupting to add his viewpoint. I could smack myself for all the times i've said " well just spit it out!" when he is struggling for words....aphasia- a word i just learned last month at the neurologists office. It is a miracle that my husband is alive. It is truly a miracle that Amy wrote this book. And furthermore it is truly a miracle that after 3 tries thru our postal system that my copy got here....IT WAS MEANT TO BE. I wish to god that Amy Zellmer had never slipped on ice. And yet i am so very appreciative that she CARES enough to take her struggles and misery and put them into words for the rest of us. Those with TBI and those who live with the survivors.

About the Author Tom Sightings is a baby boomer, part of the pig-in-a-python demographic group that has brought so many changes to America – and will continue to do so until they cash their last Social Security check. Sightings had a typical baby boomer career. He graduated from college, went to business school, worked for several companies, then in his mid-50s was unceremoniously laid off. Meanwhile he got divorced, and his two kids left for college. Now he lives with his significant other, Bee, who has two children of her own. They live in the New York area, a convenient stopover for their four peripatetic 20-somethings. He writes and produces Sightings Over Sixty which covers health, finance, retirement -- and all the concerns of people who realize that somehow they have grown up.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Fun Book, Packed with Insights By JAK I am a fan of the Sightings After 60 blog and not surprisingly, I loved this book. You Only Retire Once is collection of Tom’s best blog posts from the past five years. He has a great writing style and sense of humor that makes every article a pleasure to read. The articles are packed with insights, statistics, and the latest research on topics that affect everyone’s lives (health, money, kids, etc). I also liked the format (short articles, organized by topic). I figured that I would just read a few articles on the topics that interested me the most, but ended up reading the entire book. This was a good purchase…worth the money, but more importantly worth my time.

By Kathy Gottberg I've been reading Tom Sighting's blog posts on his blog "Sightings Over Sixty" for a couple of years now, as well as those posts that also appear on U.S News and Retirement. I appreciate his unique perspective on things that matter to people in our age group including retirement, money, health social security, and life in general. I also like his sense of humor about all of those topics and usually get a laugh or two out of every one of them. When I heard his book was coming out I knew it would be great AND that it would make a good gift for other baby boomers. This book is an easy and enjoyable read and I highly recommend it to everyone.I did receive a free copy in return for my review, but the ideas expressed are completely my own.

This book should be your first choice for retirement insight and guidance By Bob Lowry Satisfying Journey If you only read one retirement book, this is the one. Tom covers absolutely everything you need to know in his common sense, easy-to-understand style that has made his blog so popular. Unlike many other books on this subject, Tom is not above using his sense of humor to make a point or bring a sticky problem into focus. As a fellow blogger on retirement, I respect Tom's opinions and insight very highly.

By Luis Sorensen Essential oils are made of pure plants from flowers, stems, seeds, leaves, barks etc. These oils are pure organic so no need to worry about harmful chemicals. Essential oils contain antibacterial, anti-fungal and antiviral which are very healthy for our skin and protect us from different diseases.These oils have super power to heal people. Whenever I get massage from these oils I enjoy very much. It gave me new energy and healed my body, mind and spirit. These oils can be used for many things such as aromatherapy, purification of home, get rid of stress, increase immune system and many more.There were many recipes in this book and we can easily DIY these oils in our home. This book had clearly mentioned how to mix all the ingredients and how to apply these oils for our benefits. Anyone can enjoy the power of these oils.

This book is a valuable tool for educatiing yourself about the many wonderful uses of essential oils. The author describes the uses such as aromatherapy to encourage better sleep or to improve your mood. I was intrigued to find out that these oils can be used to purify the home, refine the skin, reduce stress and promote spiritual awareness. There are also many safety tips and precautions that you should follow when using essential oils. I didn't know that these oils had so many uses and I am very glad that I was able to gather so much useful information from this book.

By Jordan This book is a good source of information for people who wants to learn how to use essential oil. In this book you will see an overview of essential oil, aromatherapy and applications. Ada did a fantastic job on explaining everything you need to know about essential oil and its uses; the guidelines for precautions and safety use of essential oil are very helpful. This is indeed a very informative book and I highly recommend this book to all the people who want to learn how to use and apply essential oil into our body.

Likewise the style of writing of this book was easy to understand and precise. Then the recipes are well-prepared and easy to do. I was wondering of special menu for my mom's birthday and this book is perfect for that event. Moreover the author did a great job. It was the best out of those books I have read about ketogenic diet.

Homage and More By hh I feared this volume might prove to be un tout petit precious as notable essayists groovily riffed on the timeless pieces of MM (some of which are great, many of which are good but not spectacular despite the way people genuflect when the name is mentioned). But no. I was happily surprised to find that most of the entries were thoughtful with great meaning for modern readers. And oddly original (except where writers felt obligated to do the "ramble," which for the most part was too superficial an idea of how to pay homage to MM as well as somewhat annoying as line after line cascaded down the page naked of punctuation or with punctuation tossed in randomly like peppercorns in a beet salad then partially retrieved as the chef realized the fallacy of putting them in that kind of salad but of course some were left and those stand out,, precisely because they are left and we know the dog won't eat them so what to do with leftovers). Hence, if you can get beyond that misstep, there is much here worth one's time. Each entry begins with a quote that serves as an appetizer more than a referent. Following the essay is a short blurb in which the writer explains what was intended or how the piece took shape (think bonus feature on a DVD). Read the work with an open mind. If you simply want MM go re-read MM. If you want short, beefy bumps that leave you rubbing the spot then this collection is about as good as you are likely to get. In many ways it is actually better than just re-reading MM because the ensemble presents very differently from piece to piece, one can never tell what charming strangeness will be lobbed out from the pages. These modern pieces also do something that MM, Seneca or many other extinct palers can't quite achieve today: they make you pause between pages to ponder not just the ideas against self, but also timely applications in myriad ways tangible and poignant. Frankly, I found the best way to appreciate the collection was to read it a bit here, a bit there and during downtime throw in liberal soakings in audible.com's version of MM's originals. Like Chinese eye exercises, one focuses at a raised digit just past the nose then down several centuries and back. At times dizzying; sometimes you just notice some dirt under your thumbnail.

Capossere Read about the essay form for more than five or six minutes, and you’re almost bound to come across a reference to Montaigne. Write essays, and it’s almost incumbent upon you to at some point confront Montaigne, who began the whole thing so long ago. Which makes it surprising it’s taken so long for an anthology that asks contemporary essayists to do just that in blunt, precise fashion, as the editors Patrick Madden and Chris Lazar relate in their introduction, comparing the essays to cover songs: “We asked more than two dozen . . . essayists to give us their take on a Montaignean subject . . . [in an] attempt to reenvision Montaigne’s topics through a contemporary sensibility.” As an added bonus, the editors also asked the authors to include a brief coda “explaining the process through which the essayist translated, transfigured, reimagined, or rethought some of the essential ideas, figures, and motifs in Montaigne’s original” (and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I preferred a few codas to the actual essays themselves). Like most collections, After Montaigne has its hits and misses, but the former easily outnumber the latter, and the scales are also tilted by the fact that the excellent essays make the worst ones mostly forgettable.Similar to Montaigne’s originals, the essays range widely in subject and tone, range perhaps even more widely in style and structure, and finally also vary in their attitude toward their source material—some writing in concert with Montaigne, some against (some, as they tell us in the coda, began one way but ended the other), some yanking him forward in time, others content to let him remain in the past. This variety is a clear strength of the collection, as one is almost certain to find something (more than a few somethings more likely) that appeals.I confess the collection started a bit rough for me, but hit its stride a few essays in with Lia Purpura’s standout piece “Of Prayers,” concerning the murder on one of her students by the student’s father, funneling the incident through a sharp focus on the quilt found at the crime scene: “The quilt bore the weight of the act, of the bodies; and since such fabric isn’t given to absorbing, it must have made channels, and there the blood pooled. There were runnels. And chambers.” The murder is linked as well to the suicide of one of Purpura’s close friends, an act Purpura imagines again and again, as “a new piece of that scene fills in, suggests itself, makes a bid for inclusion.” I loved the movement within this piece, the vividness of its scenes and details, the fully introspective voice, and startlement of language. This was easily my favorite piece, but far from the only strong one. My other favorites were:Bret Lott’s “Of Giving the Lie.” I liked the way the essay was structure, along with its focus on story, use of third person, and strong sense of narrative and place.Steven Church’s “Of Idleness” makes use of photos, historical references, and news stories as he examines his own relationship to the idea of idleness and in particular the form it takes via the teenagers that loiter in stores and public areas, but especially just across the street from his home. Throughout, one has the sense that Church is unsure himself of what he’ll learn about his attitudes, and the end scene is pitch perfect.Barry Borich’s “Of Wearing My Red Dress” takes what could have been a breezy piece focusing on clothes and shifts quickly into a substantive, at times disturbing examination of how her social interactions and dress (the titular one in particular) intertwined.Judith Oriz Cofer’s “Of Books and Huecos” is a poignant, moving work that begins with the author disposing of her recently deceased mother’s goods, several of which becomes vehicles for her to come to understand her immigrant mother’s two-world existence, her longing for home, and the way the author herself has “no dream of home that can compare to hers.”In a somewhat different vein from the other essays, Chris Arthur’s “Of Solitude” is a nice overview both of Montaigne and his work and of the essay in general, bringing in his own experiences but in a less intimate fashion than many of the other writers.Marcia Aldrich has a painful (literally and otherwise) epiphany while on a horseback ride in Mexico, made perhaps even more agonizingly effective by the reader knowing just where this piece is likely to go.These half-dozen or so stood out particularly for me, but most others succeeded at least partially. Some I wholly enjoyed but felt they seemed not quite complete, some on the other hand went longer than I needed them to, but still had long passages that were moving or thought-provoking, and one or two didn’t compel so much in their content but were presented in an engaging voice. There were only a handful I didn’t much care for at all, and as mentioned above, these few were more than balanced by the stronger ones, making this an easy collection to recommend, whether one has read Montaigne or not.

Good info, bad editing By Amazon Customer While I agree with other reviewers that the book is informative and situates consuming bone broth within a broader detox regimen, the book is badly in need of a competent editor. For example, the recipe for chicken broth (p. 84) omits a key ingredient: water! It doesn't say how much water to use. Earlier, on p. 81, Ms. Westen provides a helpful shopping list which lists "2 chicken (optional—for extra gelatin)". She meant to say "chicken feet." There are other errors of this sort in the text that mar an otherwise fine book.

By Amazon Customer What I enjoyed the most about "Heal Your Gut with Bone Broth" was the engaging and relatable writing style. Cleanses often turn me off if I'm honest. It seems like too much, too fast, and I get worried about giving up too soon and having it all be lost. Juice cleanses often seem gimmicky to me--a ploy for weight loss but no real personal benefit. HOWEVER, this bone broth may turn the tide for me and cleanses. Westen's understanding of the fallacies of human nature and her down to earth outlook really made me feel that I had a friend on the other side of this book who was supporting me and cheering me on. I also found that the research and historical and contextual support for WHY bone broth is beneficial (and HAS BEEN so beneficial in the past) made me feel very safe in starting this. Why wait til 2016 to better your health? I started two days ago and am honestly LOVING IT.

By Elizabeth Elle This book is really informative and filled with plenty of health tips to improve your gut. I really enjoyed reading this book and learning more about bone broth and my gut! The book begins with introductory information about the health benefits of broth and bones both. I learned so much about the benefits of bones! Did you know that the gelatin in bones helps prevent cellulite? The book is also upfront about the downsides, which I appreciate! The book continues on with helping you figure out if you need to detox, beginning to plan for your change in diet, the basics of broth, and more. One great aspect of the book is that it takes you day-by-day through the detox. I loved this. It helped me feel confident in knowing what to expect, and how to plan for each day. My very favorite part about this book is that after each chapter, there is a relevant quiz. It helped me ensure I was really understanding what I was reading, and helped me know I was ready to move on to the next chapter! The book also has natural solutions to some common house problems- my favorites were the ones for taming kitchen odors, sticker removal, and the face masks. This book made me feel so positive and optimistic- how often can you say that about a book about bones?! I loved it.

One plug fits into your wall, the second plug go from the half which goes from the wall to the charger box. That plug does not fit correctly, you would think, it would plug fit in completely, but it doesn't. It confused me and had me order a second one because I thought it was defective. I love the concept though. As a teacher it fits nicely on my desk with all the technology I have lately. That plug worried me at first.

It contains every possible oil available and then some tasty recipes. There is no possible way to remember everything listed in this book, which is why I needed to refer it most of times while cooking.

The recipes are simple and easy to follow, so many FUN recipes for things I never knew Essential Oils could be used for. he more I use these oils, the less I rely on the expensive store-bought products. I can use this book for reference in future.
