Practical Dating Advice for Men of All Ages By Angelus Be aware this is not just a "pick-up-and-score" book for guys - although that is addressed in some ways, the intent is to start, develop and maintain a long-lasting relationship. Bikes looks at the interactions from beginning to end with a view to keeping that feeling going into the future.A great book for novices or those of us who are not so socially outgoing as others. One of the things I like about it is the fact it can be applied to all age groups, not just the teens and twenty-somethings. Recommended.

This is a great book that will tell you all the do's and don't's of relationships. It offers great advice for anyone wanting to seal the deal with that woman they've been pining after. And not only that, it also teaches how to continue the relationship beyond just those first few dates.

The Paleo Diet: Everything You Need to Know About The Paleo Diet (Lifestyle University) (Volume 1), by Walter James Brown

About the Author Walter James Brown is a caring self-development coach and successful author. Born in Leicester, England, Walter learned the hardships of growing up in a family that struggled financially. As he watched his family fight daily to put food on the table and pay bills, Walter fell into depression at the age of 16. He felt neglected during that time because he lived with a family who didn't understand depression. They in turn discouraged him; creating and reinforcing the idea that it was inevitable he would become only a failure in life. Walter began writing to cope with all the turmoil in his life and quickly found it was a therapeutic way he could convey all of his thoughts and feelings. A light at the end of the tunnel began to shine in Walter's life, and he realized that all of the hardships he had endured were not without a purpose. It became his mission in life to help other people and impact lives in a positive way. With a new goal in life, Walter began his struggle uphill to break free from the dismal childhood he had survived. He undertook any and all jobs he would come across in Leicester and saved the hard earned money he made. All of his dedication and hours of work eventually paid off, and Walter had earned enough to pay for his own academic entrance to college. Walter continued to break down boundaries after successfully graduating from college. With the writings in his journal that had changed his life and the college he worked tirelessly to attain, Walter set out for the United States at 24 years old. He chose Miami, Florida as the first stop on his map where he continues to reside. It was in Miami that Walter has made his dreams of helping others became a reality. As a health and self-development coach, Walter gently helps others overcome low self-esteem and negative body image issues using positive reinforcements and his expertise from college. In addition to his thriving career as a health and life coach, Walter is a celebrated author. Covering topics such as fitness, health, and self-development, Walter has written many books with the intent of reaching as many people as possible and changing their lives for the better.

The phrase 'because of the fact that' is in nearly every paragraph, which is redundant and no editor would have allowed it to be used even once. The author is horribly misinformed about certain subjects particularly dairy, grains, and legumes. All of these are natural and have many positive health benefits. Obviously there is a difference between enriched grains (bad) and whole grains (good) but the author does not go into this at all. He also suggests that almond milk is a good paleo substitute for cow milk; now I'm pretty certain that almond milk is processed and unnatural and my ancestors definitely were not drinking almond milk 15000 years ago.I know it's free but all things considered this book is nothing more than a waste of your time

14 of 15 people found the following review helpful. Written Unprofessionally By SGA Information is very basic and general. Writing was done very poorly. The author has no depth in the subject and has no writing skills at all. Don't waste your time.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A VERY DIFFERENT APPROACH By Charlie P. I work in treatment. I got this book with little hope that it would bring me new insight. In fact it served to affirm some of my working theories and practices regarding the inclusion of building hope into life and helping the client in finding love for living again. However, I have to say that this book also pointed out some appalling truths about the way those who suffer from addictions are treated in the USA. I hadn't been aware of some of the punitive use of fees and fines until I read this. And I had not thought of the justice system as a business prior to this either. I am not certain I can totally lean in to support everything the author says due to the lack of supporting evidence and the heavy use of opinion; however, I will say that as a position statement, or a mission statement of sorts, it has an appeal and is persuasive. It is also coming from a place of deep humanitarian support and complete compassion. I love the way the author discusses the use of compassion in our everyday lives and I fully embrace this philosophy.I'm not sure what I think about the glaringly different role those who love someone with an addiction are destined to play if they undergo these rules of engagement rather than the traditional rules of engagement they would learn in a self help and peer support group. I do have some concerns about the ways that engaging long term with someone who is creating chaos and a level of instability on the home front might begin to demoralize those who depend on the addict, prior to actual recovery that is.The author urges the loved ones of those suffering from addiction to stay very engaged, present and involved in the life of the addict. I do worry what the toll for the loved ones might be in this scenario but I can certainly agree that this conduct is most likely more authentic than the removed stance advised by the 12 step groups. It is only logical that the recovering addict can benefit from a close and loving, non judgemental and compassionate relationship with significant others. I just wonder what that will do to the loved one in the LONG TERM. However, I find it very difficult to argue against the giving and receiving of love. At any rate this diametrically opposed role the significant others play is certainly food for thought. Also I appreciate the kindness shown in the book. I hope we can all adopt some of those core values of listening to and accepting each other with love. I hope these behaviors become habit and extend to all those with whom we interact.A final note on the content of this book: I appreciate the way it REDEFINED hitting bottom. I think the concept that for some people "hitting bottom" and death are the same destination is an important one to teach. I believe this information has somehow fallen to the wayside in recent times.Mr Martin thank you for a brief, refreshing and focused insight into a variation of treatment and recovery. Overall I think everyone should give this a glance. In one way the very fact that it is mostly opinion makes it of more value since it is a perspective that is going to be fresh to most everyone who has been in the life of someone who struggles with addiction.

His care and sensitivity to our plight, and the mammoth hurdle we seem to be facing which also feels so isolating, shines a light and a ray of hope in a dark place. THANK YOU.

This is the story about the early beginnings of rock 'n' roll in England and the arrival of The Beatles in Hamburg where they first met Tony Sheridan. They began working with him, backing Tony on their first hit record – 'My Bonnie' which sold over a million copies in America. Brian Epstein later asked Tony to return with The Beatles to England and continue working with them. Tony declined the offer and The Beatles went on to make history. The author was with Tony Sheridan in the 'Jets' from the very beginning in London, and later with him in the 'Star Combo' – the resident band at the 'Star Club'. Many other great British and American bands visited and performed at this club in Hamburg during the 60's. Tony and the band played alongside or toured with many of them including: Gene Vincent, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Tommy Rowe, Brenda Lee, Gerry and the Pacemakers, Kingsize Taylor, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Joey Dee and the Starliters and the weird and astonishing Screaming Lord Such. This is the story about those incredible times.

Everything that you wanted to know about Hojo Undo training is explained in this book. There are explanations on the different training methods of Japanese and Okinawan Karate. Learn the secrets of traditional Karate power. Learn the difference between sport Karate and traditional Karate. Traditional Karate focuses on building a complete Karate warrior. 36 of 36 people found the following review helpful. Great! By Loren W. Christensen I love this book. As a guy who has been training in the martial arts since 1965 and who has written extensively on it for many years, I have often been critical of some of the ancient exercises as being unsound and dangerous. When I picked up The Art of Hojo Undo, I expected to see some of these. Not so. All of the exercises within the book are sound and highly beneficial for building power and strength overall, and power, strength, and speed in specific martial arts movements. It's unlikely that you will build a Muscle Beach type of physique with these exercises, that is, one that's big on pretty but light on functional. The exercises discussed in this book will develop size, strength and power, but of the type that translates to your martial arts movements in ways that you never thought possible. There's a new movement among exercise enthusiasts today that's not about wearing cute gym attire and chatting with friends around shiny exercise equipment in a brand named fitness facility. This "new" approach involves returning to the old ways of getting strong: flipping over giant truck tires, executing pull-ups on a 4x4 ceiling beam, and pressing large stones overhead. It's a 'what's-old-is-new-again" thing and, judging by the incredible results that its proponents are getting, it works wonderfully.Much of the material in The Art of Hojo Undo is old school, which is not a bad thing. The exercises and routines - many of which go back several decades, some over a hundred years ago - are still being used today for one simple reason: they work, and they work well.So if you're looking for a break from concentration curls and dumbbell flies - exercises that won't do a heck of a lot for your martial arts - do yourself a favor and get this book. Three months from now you will be amazed at your new speed, power and strength.Loren W. Christensen

Lift things properly; hit things with care By A.Bodhi As I continue along my life-long journey through this unique realm of martial arts research and science, the one constant I repetitively bump into is that what the ancient martial masters intuitively knew from practical experience about developing paradigms of training for the comprehensive development of warriors' minds, bodies, and spirits, contemporary scientific methods and critical thinking are confirming over and over again.Mr. Clarke's, The Art of Hojo Undo (the art of supplemental training) reflects this truth throughout this well written, 201 page manual, detailing body strengthening exercises, not only in their appropriate historical context, but in a way that makes sense to an exercise physiologist, as well as the typical martial artist trainee. There are numerous plates, black and white photographs and line-drawings throughout the book, which intensify the instructional richness of this manual. The book is organized in an Introduction, elaborating on the ancient or historical methods of training that existed in Okinawa. Here we find that not only did the people of this Ryukyu Retto possess their own unique indigenous training methods, they also borrowed heavily from the Chinese.Following the stage-setting introduction, we have the second chapter explicating preparation exercises known as junbi undo, designed to warm and loosen up the body for more intense exercises. These are free-standing movements where the practitioner uses no special equipment, merely the actions of one's own body. The third chapter finds detailed prints and descriptions of various lifting tools that the Okinawan practitioners used to strength the movements of the body. Not only will we find the directions on how to execute the exercises with this equipment properly and safely, there are photographs supporting the directions. In addition to the instructional directives within the book, one finds detail descriptions on how to manufacture these tools with modern materials to reach a reasonably accurate facsimile of the historical designs. This is true of all the tools shown and described throughout the text and not just in chapter three. Some of the lifting tools covered, with the appropriate exercises and manufacturing guidelines include: the makiagi, the chiishi, the double-handle chiishi, the nigiri gami, the tan, the ishi sashi and tetsu sashi, the kongoken, and the tetsu and ishi geta.Being a former strength and conditioning coach, I found both the tools and methods of using the tools sound applications of modern day conditioning principles and concepts. Manufacturing these tools within the home setting would be easy enough from the directions provided in this manual, making for an opportunity to improved variety within one's personal training protocol. The fourth chapter goes into detail about the various ways and means the Okinawan practitioners of yore used impact tools to tough and strength the movements of striking with the body's natural weapons. The devise that is uniquely Okinawan is present--the makiwara--along with old historical photographs of the Okinawan masters using the various impact tools discussed. Other tools are shown and the one in particular that I liked was a devise that is reminiscent of a European medieval Pell.Again, the directions for making the variety of striking tools are clear and concise for the reader to follow. The fifth chapter addresses ideas for conditioning the body through partner work designed to both strengthen and improve sensitivity to oppositional movement forthcoming from the partner. The sixth chapter pertains to various auxiliary applications consisting of individual calisthenics and partnered exercises with the goal for strengthening different portions of an individual's body. The seventh chapter finds the reader discovering a unique collection of contemporary and older tools used to condition and strength movements of the human structure. There is the tetsuwa or iron ring, the ishibukuro or stone sack, heavy bag and smaller-heavy bag devises, with others shown being typically modern in construction. The final chapter owns the comments from Okinawan masters' discussion of hojo undo or supplemental training to martial arts practice, all believing such training is both needed and beneficial for one's complete development as a martial artist, regardless of the discipline. The book is a well-constructed and balanced text of historical perspective, academic study and practical application of just what is hojo undo, how to safely engage in such training, how to construct the tools from modern materials, and what the benefits may be from the proper use of this supplemental training paradigm. It is this reviewer's conclusion that the plethora of older, historical exercise methods from the Ryukyu Islands as documented within this training manual, if utilized with the appropriate principles of conditioning--progressive overload, attention to intensity and movement specificity--will be an added bonus to any martial practitioner striving to better his or her kinesthetic awareness and strengths for whatever their particular martial endeavor may be. Plus, it simply looks fun to make and use the tools shown in this book--something that I believe helps us to solidly connect with the overall traditional spirit of martial practice.A. Bodhi

Kane When I glanced through this tome my first thought was that any book with forewords by three 8th dan black belts and one 10th dan black belt has got to be good. After perusing the materials I quickly discovered that it wasn't just good, it was great! While a few books (including a couple of my own) touch on the subject of hojo undo (supplementary training), I found The Art of Hojo Undo uniquely comprehensive and utterly fascinating. The only thing that even comes close was a book by famous karateka Morio Higaonna, which has been out of print for decades. Topics include lifting tools such as makiage (wrist roller), chiishi (stone weights), nigiri gami (gripping jars), and ishisashi (stone padlock), impact tools such as makiwara (striking post), tou (bamboo bundle), jari bako (sand box), and kakite bikei (blocking post), body conditioning exercises, partner drills, and auxiliary exercises, along with some interesting comments on hojo undo by a couple of Okinawan karate masters. The author has a very engaging writing style. A practitioner since 1973, he has tons of practical knowledge and experience to share with his readers. Packed with rare and unique photographs, clear illustrations, and articulate instructions this book is a wonderful resource for classical martial artists. I wholeheartedly recommend it.Lawrence KaneAuthor of Blinded by the Night, among other titles

Increasingly the segmentation between birders, butterfly watchers, dragonfly watchers and photographers is reducing as interests overlap and there is a demand for books that cover the three popular groups of birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Having written and photographed the guide to the birds of Sri Lanka in the series, Gehan de Silva Wijeyeratne has produced a single, compact and portable photographic guide to the butterflies and dragonflies of the country. The emphasis in the 280 species featured is on the commoner species, covering around 90 per cent of the species that a visitor is likely to see. It is also an excellent book for residents to learn about the commoner butterflies and dragonflies before progressing to more advanced technical books.

The guide is focused on field use to help beginners and experts identify species and provides information on their distribution and habitats. As identification of butterflies and dragonflies require a different approach, the two sections are done as two mini photographic field guides with common introductory sections to wildlife watching in Sri Lanka. The book includes information on the key wildlife sites, general introductions to the biology of dragonflies and butterflies, up-to-date checklists with local status and useful references for people who wish to progress further with their study of these charismatic and photogenic animals.

A primer, field guide and reference By Sarakani The author of this book has almost single-handedly pioneered a resurgent popular interest in the biodiversity of Sri Lanka, particularly with regards to birds and cetaceans within the last two decades. Into this slim volume he has funnelled a great deal of fieldwork documenting butterflies and dragonflies commonly encountered by nature travellers and curious residents in Sri Lanka.Of coffee table books on the island’s biota there is no end. Monumental in size and price, the quality of writing often does not match the photos – these are typically available in Sri Lankan bookshops only, but will often be of limited use in the field. In the “naturalists guide” series here the difference is refreshing: the pithy volumes are constrained in imagery and writing – but the text encompasses more than enough for morning and evening reading as well as acting as field guides with pictures that are practical if not ostentatious. The book combines portability with extensive content – not least thanks to colour coding, small margins and judicious typesetting. There are no cheap field guides covering Sri Lanka’s extensive fauna of common colourful flying invertebrates that are largely subsumed under the title of this book. John and Judy Banks field guide to butterflies in Sri Lanka (mentioned in this book) is probably out of print and perhaps dated, though the illustrations were good. This book fills a pressing void in covering this vital subject, not just for Sri Lanka, but as a representative popular field guide that would typically be absent or highly unusual in a developing tropical country – the sorts of places where wildlife is richest but also sadly likely to be ignored and trashed by commerce and people (e.g., parts of Indonesia, Thailand or Cuba). One would be lucky to find a decent ornithological field guide to a place like Fiji, but butterflies? Forget it. In this respect, Sri Lanka has been well served by a colonial past that took pains at starting inventories of biodiversity – many of them now out-dated but serving to revive interest as identification guides. Birds have generally never been out of fashion, but spiders, ants and beetles got lost, not just in the wild but also as rare and unused dusty manuscripts in odd libraries, accessible only to the specialist. Lepidopterans and perhaps odonata generally commanded interest, especially from tourists but popular books have never easily been available or accessible and this guide is a much needed start or addition to popular and inexpensive literature. Here, De Silva W. has used field experience and the relatively obscure historical references to resurrect and inform the reader about the island’s Lepidopeterans and Odonata – there is a fair amount of updated taxonomic information on families and subfamilies. In the first half of the book, around 150 butterflies (species or subspecies) are covered, followed by some 30 damselflies and 46 dragonflies – readers are informed that this coverage represents 90% of species to be commonly encountered. The pictures are informative though the editorial selection would have been more limited given the relative paucity of photos unlike in ornithology. Some taxa command a whole page, though it is typically 2 per page. There are subdivisions according to family interspersed with detailed notes and tables on problem identifications. For a few of the taxa that have been poorly worked on – it is almost virgin territory and De Silva W. has had to coin new descriptive terms for wing patterns. The dragonfly section is smaller with room for improvement. It is creditable that both damselflies and dragonflies are incorporated with tabulated taxonomic descriptions. Both groups are provided with checklists. There are maps, lists of naturalist tour operators and information on conservation status. I was especially impression by a detailed assessment of taxonomy. There are around 177 pages with a good bibliography and full indexes.Being focussed on butterflies, you wont find the Atlas moth here. Many of the butterfly images lack the upper wing surface though this would scarcely be critical in identifying the smaller and drabber varieties. Several taxa have more than one image – sometimes illustrating behaviour such as dragonflies mating – all taxa represented have at least one colour image. The descriptions compensate for any illustrative inadequacies by notes and helpful remarks in the taxa descriptions – these are actually of great value and atypical for the traditional butterfly fieldwork where illustrated upper and under surfaces of wings replace a great deal of text that could prove stimulating. These descriptions include a strong botanical element with identifications of the host plants that caterpillars or adults may use with binomial or familial level plant identities. Most readers, myself included would be novices to the subject so this book is more than a welcome addition. As Gehan hints, it may lead to further work and he mentions upcoming studies by specialists. He has consulted widely, not just from books but also from scientists to keep the work as well informed as possible. The modern nature tourist can snap high-speed images of butterflies, as never before as De Silva W. remarks that would aid identification and I’ve already identified various unnamed butterflies in my photo collection. I did however note, that a iridescent blue/green damsel-or dragonfly commonly seen by rivers seemed absent – the dragonfly section could doubtless be improved in future editions. Overall, this book is both a primer and a reference to feed a growing interest in these popular insects and it may lead to similar popular much needed and yet absent works to cover other arthropods that are often encountered such as beetles, ants or even leeches. I would hope for future editions of this or related works with room for editorial improvement as well as content. This book is highly recommended to amateurs and specialists given the relative scarcity of works in this genre, not just in Sri Lanka.

By Georgie Gemmell In recent years, Sri Lanka has become known as one of the top wildlife destinations in the world, and rightfully so; the diversity of wildlife in comparison to its size is staggering. The island is famed for its large charismatic mammals both on land and at sea, as well as boasting a stunning array of colourful and vibrant birdlife. But in his latest addition to the ‘Naturalist’s Guide’ series, Gehan aims to acquaint the nature traveler with a group of creatures equally as vibrant and photogenic, albeit on a smaller scale- the butterflies and dragonflies. As with the island’s birdlife, these colourful creatures can be encountered on almost any itinerary, so no doubt at some point their intricate beauty and interesting array of behaviours will catch the eye and beckon the need to know more. Whether you are new to the world of winged insects or an avid enthusiast, Gehan’s latest work provides the perfect introduction to the island’s butterfly and dragonfly fauna. This attractive little book, like previous work in the ‘Naturalist’s Guide’ series, has a compact field-friendly design. Some 148 butterfly and 78 dragonfly species are spaciously described and illustrated with large, clear beautiful images. Field-specific information for each species is provided using a quick reference layout, including identification features, flight characteristics, distribution and larval food plants. Where relevant, the author has included additional images to illustrate seasonal colour forms or species that exhibit sexual dimorphism. Sought-after endemic species are indicated with a small green ‘e’ symbol alongside the common and scientific name. Both the butterfly and dragonfly section have their own introduction laden with additional information such as classification, basic topography, conservation status, lifecycle, a glossary, a species checklist and user-friendly guide to common behaviours. As a professional naturalist who has worked in Sri Lanka, I believe Gehan’s photographic guides should be a backpack staple for anyone spending anytime on the island. His authoritative and yet user-friendly tone accompanied by just the right amount of scientific information makes this book the ideal guide for both the beginner and field professional alike.

True field guide, a lot of of additional information By SI2000 Considering its small size, Sri Lanka has extremely lot to offer in terms of its biodiversity. Ecotourism in general gained a lot of popularity here in last two decades and apart of birds and large mammals, some smaller groups of animals, among them also insects, are increasingly in focus of naturalists traveling to the island. Both butterflies and dragonflies are strikingly beautiful insects. However, also quite diverse in number of species so it is not very easy to put a name on each subject of one’s admiration. Thus to have a compact, small format and easy-to-use book which enables identification of the majority of species of butterflies and dragonflies one is likely to encounter while traveling Sri Lanka in your pocket, is a pure luxury. And “A Naturalist’s Guide to the butterflies and dragonflies of Sri Lanka”, written by prolific writer, naturalist and wildlife expert Gehan de Silva Wijeyeratne, is far more than that. Not only in the field, this combined guide will be a welcomed companion also in the evenings since it offers an extensive pool of additional information on species’ general characteristics, biology, habitats, distribution etc., plus a lot of general information on butterflies and dragonflies of Sri Lanka. Island’s endemics are well covered, of course. While in the butterflies around 10% of the species and subspecies are endemic, the level of endemism in the dragonflies of Sri Lanka is extraordinary- almost 50% of the dragonfly fauna is confined to the island. Many endemic dragonflies are quite common and also well covered in the present Naturalist’s Guide.I’m strongly recommending this combined field guide to everyone. Basic arguments are definitely its well balanced contents, practical design and quality of information, including its affordable price. Congratulations to the author and John Beaufoy Publishing Ltd. for this very nice and useful book.Matjaz Bedjanic, Slovenia

Salazar Lozano Alfred Russel Wallace was a great naturalist of the nineteenth century, (codiscoverer of the evolutionary theory by means of natural selection with Darwin) he wrote several classics in science literature. Two things operated against him, his belief in the occult and the great prestige Darwin already had when he was just a young naturalist making great discoveries in Darwin's own line of investigation. This particular book was written when Wallace was a mature scientist and had already a prestigious carreer. He used his experience and previous works to theorize in Species Distribution through Islands all over the world. He personally made lots of field work (a marked difference with Darwin, since the latter suffered most of his life with bad health) and by then personally knew most of the elite scientists of that epoch. All this ingredients and many more make this a must read book for the science historian or anyone interested in the evolution of thought in the evolution theory. This reading is particularly interesting too, because all this was previous to the theory of continental drift and plate tectonics in 1915, so Wallace had to deal with the species distribution problem in islands without this knowledge. A must read book.

"Island Life" is a great book in species distribution. not never an introduction. If you want a book of introduction, you can try Edward Wilson's "The Diversity of Life" or David Quammen's "The song of the Dodo". The former half of the book is the theory of species distribution. Some are still useful and basic for now, but some are too old to be true. But the later half of case study is worthy of reading. There are many details in comparison of difference island. If you are major in biology or ecology, it is easy to read. But if not, I suggest you should read some introduction book first. The most interesting thing is that you can realize the nature world one century ago from this book. Some place are still natural and not damaged by human activities. This book is definitely a science study, not a general science. That's why I don't recommend it to everyone, but the naturalist.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. one of Wallace's enduring classics By C. H Smith Wallace is most remembered for his independent discovery of the theory of natural selection, but he was also the father of the modern approach to biogeographical studies, and history's foremost tropical naturalist--and he made many important contributions beyond biology as well. "Island Life" is one of his most important works. In it he extends studies begun in another of his classic publications, the two-volumed "The Geographical Distribution of Animals," to two subjects: the influence of the glacial epochs on organismal distribution patterns, and the characteristics of island biogeography. Many students of Wallace's career consider this book his finest scientific effort, both for its joining of theory and empiricism, and for his attention to detail and breadth of study. Included is a full working out of history's first theory of continental glaciation based on a combination of geographical and astronomical causes, a discussion of island classification, and a survey of worldwide island faunas and floras. I give it a "4" rating here only because *now* it is primarily of interest to historians of science and those environmentalists who might want information on the late nineteenth century state of island biotas around the world; still, as a major study by one the period's great minds, it arguably demands attention on its own terms.

In 1978 Hans Cousto, a Swiss mathematician and musicologist discovered the natural formula of the "Cosmic Octave" as the link between different kinds of perodically occurring natural phenomena, such as the orbit of the planets, the weather, colors, rhythms and tones. This extraordinary book explains these relationships with examples of astronomical data comparing the frequencies of planatery orbits, in architectural works, in ancient and modern measuring systems, the human body, music and medicine. Cousto reveals how music is truly the language of the cosmos and of the natural world.

I see that 22 out of 24 readers of his review said it helped them. I would hate to think that so many were missing out on a worthy treatise on how the Universe is mathematically put together. I hope to undo some of his damage with my review. I have Masters degrees, including Math, Physics and Chemistry. I understand the details of what this book puts forth. I can say with resounding thanks, that all is well, read in harmony, in the Universe and this book goes a long way past other proofs. What Mr. Hirschorn objects to, a factor that successfully reduces the periodic orbits and frequencies of each body in our solar system, defies many mathematical traditions. The author may not understand the significance of this factor, as we did not understand the significance of Pi for so many centuries. The fact that the sun, planets and moon stand in the same frequency ratio as the notes on our most harmonic scale is the point, a brilliant one at that. In number theory, a science worthy of the best minds, we seek to understand these relationships between quantities. What Mathematician can explain the Law of Nines in our own number system? Mr. Hirschorn may reduce the studied body of work on that subject alone to mere "ramblings of numerology," our best minds have thought otherwise. How can one be a mathematician and not a musician? The significance of what we see to what we hear, the frequencies we respond to and how they repeat themselves from DNA outward, are the stuff we were made to understand. This book takes us further than we have traveled before. Have a great voyage! Once you leave the portal of what we don't want to be true, and travel into the awesome resonance of the Universe and what we see before us, your eyes, heart and mind will be in for so many surprises. Don't miss this one...

By artemis robison The Cosmic Octave is a gem of a handbook for anyone interested in understanding how music is truly the language of the cosmos and of the natural world. Cousto, a brilliant german mathematician, writes succinctly and in terms that are easy to grasp even for non-scientists. He outlines the basics of how specific musical tones and intervals are related to the color spectrum, periods of time, the sun and each of the planets in our solar system, and all the natural cycles and rythms we find in the world around us. By showing the reader the science behind how all life processes are tuned to specific tones or groups of tones, we are able to glimpse into the mystery of why and how music is a universal human language, indeed a universal language of life itself. For anyone curious about why music can affect listeners so profoundly, this book offers fascinating insight. And for readers interested in a more in-depth study of this subject, the appendices are rich with detailed scientific information and reference. For anyone pursuing a musical path, this handbook is invaluable as a guide and a powerful tool. It outlines the basics of how music may be created in resonance with the language of the universal life force. At a time when much of human civilization is out of sync with the earth and indeed at odds with it, Cousto offers a key to how music can be created to purposefully bring people into realignment with our roots in the natural world. Cousto is a brilliant spokesperson for all interested in how humanity may evolve wisely and gracefully into the new millenium. Certainly he is to be praised for his ability to educate and inspire a wide audience. The Cosmic Octave is a treasure chest in a very small package. Don't miss it.

By Midwest Book Review In The Cosmic Octave, mathematician and musician Hans Cousto shows the reader the intimate connection between levels of vibrating periodical phenomena and how the revolutions of the planets are related to musical beats, sounds and colors -- as well as the microcosmic vibratory qualities of a single cell. The Cosmic Octave will prove to be of great and enduring interest for students of metaphysics, the harmonics of music, and the relationships of colors, tones, and the cosmology of planets.

Learning to draw amazing unusual subjects

This eBook is about how to draw various robots, which you can find underneath the chapters. There are various types of robots drawn and explained with steps about how you can draw them at home. This eBook also focuses not only on the robot drawing but sketching too. Also some of the things a robot are more likely to have like a hammer robot a normal robot have been shown. Sketching gives anything a better look, so some sketching always help in all drawings. Each drawing must have a structure and a robot is the same. On the other hand, dissimilar to the human body you can draw a robot based off a human structure or simply something altogether cutting edge with its own structure and shape, however in this instructional exercise we have the humanoid structure to work from, thus we begin off with an oval shape for the head as regular and after that every one of the joints, for example, the shoulders, the elbows, the wrists, the pelvis, the knees and the lower legs are all generally outlined in as round circles and after that the biceps, the lower arms, the thighs and the calves are all portrayed in a wiener molded.

I want to give him a gift not just something I will buy but something I made an effort. And I thought of drawing a robot for him. I know how to draw but of course, I still need a guide and this book didn't disappoint me. I made it and had a great outcome. A big help indeed.

Good on Myths, Missing Some Details By Linda Reyburn I'm glad there's some 'how to' on solving acne issues in this book, but I really wish the author would add in some references for this phrase: “Studies show”. It's not helpful to be told that there are a lot of myths to be debunked (such as, 'acne is caused by eating greasy foods') without any concrete examples of which studies have shown the falseness of this claim. It's also great that there are some examples of types of treatments (natural and medicinal), but some more details on specific acne-curing chemicals would be helpful. There are also a few cosmetic defects of grammar and spelling (“some of them side effects”, as is said in Location 111). However, if you're looking for an expanded version of a magazine article on acne and its treatments, without the fluff and hyperbole found in girl magazines, this is the right book.

Harold "How to Cure Acne - Cure Acne, Look Better and Younger" is a useful and easy to follow guide to an age old problem. This light read outlines the common causes and myths of acne. Some of these myths and "cures" I already knew, but most were a surprise. For example...vinegar.The layout is a collection of simple numbered lists. The writing is clear and concise. Although the book discusses the medical procedures that doctors use for acne treatment; the real treasure trove of information is the home remedies. This book will be a definite go-to source for all my future skin care. If you like learning simple homemade solutions, then this book is worth the money.

Full of information and quality reading By Rizza Austria The principles explained in this book goes a long way towards enhancing general all over quality of life and healthy living. I think it should be used as a guide to a lifestyle change, and not just a diet. I have started losing weight, I feel great, and my skin tone and texture has greatly improved. Also this book gave a few ideas on natural treatments to cure my acne. I never knew I could use baking soda to eliminate acne breakouts! This is something I would definitely try. I suggest that people give it a try. As a result a person will not only have clear skin, but be overall a healthier person.
