Now, it seems like I can’t live without it. I am quickly becoming a huge fan of this author’s simple, easy-to-understand style of presenting her information. She gives plenty of tips for thinking differently about food, and helpful hints for changing up your life. I have been using them as a way to help me develop better habits. I cannot tell you how much better I have been feeling since I began making these changes to my life. Suddenly, I have more energy, more ambition, and an overall better attitude toward life. Did I mention I’ve lost weight already? It is such an amazing feeling. I bought this book to help me with getting through the holidays. There are some great meal ideas in here. I love the Turkey Veggie Lasagna, and my husband really has a taste for the baked dill salmon. Already, I’m using the recipes every day. I can’t wait to work my way through the whole thing!

I’ve got some good tools ready to help me get through it all while maintaining my new lifestyle. Unfortunately, there’s only so much I can do with all of the temptations that are everywhere. That’s why I decided to grab a copy of this book. If nothing else, at least it offers the opportunity to undo some of the inevitable damage. The book offers countless practical tips to help you rethink what you eat, and how you think about food in general. It also offers up some great recipes to help bring me out of the holiday season without destroying all the hard work that I’ve done. There are some great smoothie recipes to help tide me over between meals, as well as some great dessert options. The choco apple nachos are particularly great. I haven’t tried the chocolate-frosted doughnuts yet, but it is next on my list.

About the Author Scott Thybony has written books and articles for National Geographic, and his work has appeared in major newspapers and magazines, such as Smithsonian, Men's Journal, and Outside. He is also the author of Burntwater, published by the University of Arizona Press. He lives in Flagstaff, Arizona.David B. Edwards is Professor of Anthropology at Williams College. He is the author of "Heroes of the Age: Moral Fault Lines on the Afghan Frontier "(California, 1996).

Nobles This is the latest book to be published by the University of Arizona Press in their Desert Places Series and it is an absolutely wonderful offering.For some time now they have been publishing books on selected desert places as diverse as The San Luis Valley, The Black Rock Desert, The Grand Canyon, Organ Pipe Cuctus, and now The Painted Desert. One factor that has tied these diverse landscapes together for the reader is the top notch writers and photographers selected to present what turns out to be both a wonderful rand and stunningly beautiful photographs.This relatively short book, just 96 pages, will take the reader from the Grand Canyon to the Petrified Forest National Park in a landscape rarely seen by the traveling public, especially those that take the Petrified Forest exit off Interstate 40. The Painted Desert runs some 200 miles across northeastern Arizona and most lies within Indian country, Navajo and Hopi. It contains not only the largest collection of petrified wood in the world but an abundance of natural beauty, scientific phenomeon's, and an intriguing history within its windswept, sandy, difficult landscape. It is believed the land dates back some 225 million years to the Late Triassic period and indeed some of the best fossil records and rock formations are found in this area that receives less than ten inches of rain yearly and where the strongest winds in Arizona blow sand into dune fields and cover and uncover treasures long sought after by scientists, collectors, and photographers.Not only is there a discussion of the geology, paleontology, anthropology, and human history of the area but just enough personal stories and insights to make the reader think Thybony is sitting with them sharing a cup of coffee and his experiences in this national treasure little known to most travelers.It addition to the book being a real plaeasure to read, thanks to award winning writer Scott Thybony and his highly readable literary style, the photographs are strinkingly beautiful and a credit to David Edwards, himself a sixteen year veteral of photographing for the likes of National Geographic.This is a worthy addition the the Desert Places series. But beware, after reading this book the reader is liable to just have to order the others in the series. They are that good and inexpensive to boot. Highly recommended.

Much of it is remote, accessible only on bad dirt roads. Even at the one national park made from the Painted Desert, the star billing goes to the Petrified Wood. As a tourist attraction the Painted Desert has to compete with the more famous and more dramatic geo-architecture nearby. Fortunately the University of Arizona Press has given us its Desert Places series, teaming up writers and photographers who know their places well, offering a more personal and literary experience of a place than you'd find in the average guidebook.The writer/photographer team for the Painted Desert is well-chosen. Scott Thybony is the only white person who has both herded Navajo sheep and discovered dinosaur fossils in the Painted Desert. Dave Edwards is a world-class photographer who has spent decades exploring deserts from the Grand Canyon to Mongolia.Edwards might seem to be placed at a disadvantage by the Desert Places format, which is limited to black-and-white photographs for a place defined by its colors. But his keen eye for desert shapes, light subtleties, and weather moods succeeds in bringing out the personality of the Painted Desert.Thybony takes us on a personal trek into the desert, letting us meet its geology and famous residents--both its fossils and its Navajo residents today. He shares stories of some of the unlikely characters who have come to the Painted Desert, from fossil hunters to movie makers.Best of all, Thybony offers us a poetic eye: "A mythic perspective comes easily in the desert. I find myself drawn to places where the normal sense of time collapses...Out here the tracks of strange life-forms punch holes in the solid present, weakening its hold."

Broderick The book is 76 short pages of anecdotes, some apparently taking place during a trip the author took with a photographer through the region, and some apparently as flashbacks of previous experiences. I learned nothing about the geology or geography, little about the people of the area, and got no useful information for planning a trip to the area. The book includes what look like some nice B&W photos, but the photos are reproduced using about half the page in the already-small format of the book (remainder of photo pages is blank space).Fast and pleasant reading, but only mildly entertaining, not at all useful, and not worth the $10+ I spent to get it.

By Dr Lindsay Gerard Sharp In summary the author, a long standing expert in this subject, provides a thorough, thoughtful and helpful historical analysis of Medieval Robots until the mid-to-end C 15. There is a relatively small gap thereafter until the advent of automata in Italy and France in the C. 16 which remains to be filled in a book, as opposed to a number of specialist articles. The actual robotic mechanisms throughout these periods need further analysis and identification both pictorially and in writing. Various University PhD theses are to be found on line but there is no up to date authoritative book available.

By Lani I am all about making my own "pampering" products at home, and am always in the market for books with recipes and advice. This was a well written book with different properties described for the various oils etc used in making the salts, and substitution advice for those with allergies. I'm very impressed with this book!

There were several of each type relax, energize, sleep, etc recipes. Substitutes for ingredients were listed also. This is one of the better DIY "home spa" books. I was rather impressed with it.

About the Author I grew up in a family of scientists, and I used to find emotions to be scary and overwhelming. After university, I was a humanities teacher in a school culture where people talked openly about feelings and I found myself challenged to stop being the expert and to learn to be a person. When I started to notice and name feelings, my relationship with my students changed, and I decided I d better learn more about how emotions work. Now I m the CEO of a nonprofit organization called Six Seconds. I feel privileged to lead a network of many thousands of educators and trainers and changemakers spreading EQ around the world. We are working toward the vision of a billion people practicing emotional intelligence. Over the last 18 years of teaching people to teach emotional intelligence, I worked with big organizations like FedEx and the United Nations and the U.S. Navy, and with amazing people in large and small organizations all over the planet. My basic message is that emotions are valuable if we can learn to use them. Emotions can help us be leaders worth following. I've written several books about that; first At the Heart of Leadership, then Inside Change, and most recently, The Vital Organization. I travel a lot. On customs forms, it asks for occupation, and I m never sure what to write. I m an author and a researcher. I m a coach and trainer, a leader and a changemaker. I m a son and a husband and a daddy. In the end, I write educator, and for me it means all those roles in one.

Latif I have been practicing and conducting workshops based on Six Seconds Emotional Intelligence model for around seven years. After reading the Whole Hearted Parenting by Josh Freedman, I feel like I took another leap in my understanding how to apply the model in real life.The book not only helps parents to be more emotionally but also helps them to enable children to be more emotionally intelligent. It is easier to see how to apply the framework because he uses examples from his life as a parent of two children. He presents himself as a fallible dad rather than an expert. As he states in his bio, he was challenged to stop being the expert and learned to be a better person.The parenting context although unique can be transposed in various aspects of our life. My child is grown and I have two granddaughters who are not living with us; but I can see how I can still learn to grow and be a change agent.The book certainly will help readers realize why we love our children, how we can make different choices, and how can we grow with our children.

But I remember that you have come to listen to my thoughts about a great subject, and not to my feelings about myself; and, of Oxford, who that holds this Professorship could dare to speak, when he recalls the exquisite verse in which one of his predecessors described her beauty, and the prose in which he gently touched on her illusions and protested that they were as nothing when set against her age-long warfare with the Philistine? How, again, remembering him and others, should I venture to praise my predecessors? It would be pleasant to do so, and even pleasanter to me and you if, instead of lecturing, I quoted to you some of their best passages. But I could not do this for five years. Sooner or later, my own words would have to come, and the inevitable contrast. Such an Incredible source for anyone who wants to know about South Carolina By Lynne Marie I live on the reservoir, having just moved back to South Carolina. There are hundreds of birds and plants I know almost nothing about. I love this book. I will use it almost daily to research what exactly I want to know about this beautiful, hidden resource that few people know about. It's a great reference book just for South Carolina. Love the graphs that tell you when you can see certain plants in bloom or ones who have migrated here at a certain time. One of the best reference books about this beautiful state at our local library. Thanks for taking so many years to make such a detailed account of your life here.
