Durand, while also responding to the atmospheric painting of J. M. W. Turner, the trauma of the Civil War, and the shifts in American tastes to French Barbizon painting and Impressionism. Kerry Dean Carso presents the influence of the landscape and industrial development of Rondout (later Kingston), New York, McEntee s native city. David Schuyler reappraises the art and career of this fascinating artist, who played such a pivotal role in the art and culture of his day. Its my pick for this years best 'How to' guitar book By mervyns I bought this with a view to upgrading my jazz-guitar skills but discovered this book offers a whole lot more than guitar playing instruction. I am a better musician for reading it, plain and simple. Richard Niles is a masterful educator because while his approach is light-hearted, a lot of knowledge is packed into every laugh.There is a place for humour, nay a need for humour, in education, and this strikes a chord with me. Congratulations on maybe the most efficient ‘How to play guitar’ book I have yet come across. Its certainly the funniest. Recommended for all guitar players out there with room for improvement.

I feel like I'm beginning to know what I'm doing By Garrett Wolfe Simon This book is a MUST have for anyone who wants to express themselves, not only on guitar, but on bass, piano, or perhaps even sitar! I've been playing professionally for half a century, and for the first time, since I cracked open this book, I feel like I'm beginning to know what I'm doing. And while I am learning to master my musical language and craft, Dr. Niles keeps me laughing. This is the most informative, easy to use, and fun music text I have ever used. My only complaint is that he didn't write it decades ago. 8 out of five stars!!!

I am generally not a reader of history as I find most historical accounts boring, due more to the general quality of historical By Paul C Glasser This engaging book was a delightful surprise. I started reading it because I am currently reading and learning about water management and also because my wife’s family history crossed paths with the LCRA. I am generally not a reader of history as I find most historical accounts boring, due more to the general quality of historical writing than history itself. This author, however, really knows how to write and was responsible for much lost sleep as I found it difficult to put down late at night.His description of the political shenanigans required to turn a history of flooding into a new future for a large portion of Texas that previously had no electricity is absolutely fascinating. Flash floods that put roads under 60 feet of water, political careers that went all the way to the White House, deals under the table, deals in public, nice guys, bad guys, and skinny-dipping hippies, it’s all there. Highly recommended if you have an interest in conservation, water management, politics, or just want a look into one window of how Texas grew up.

If you live within the watershed then you've seen the dams, experienced drought and flood, played in the parks, and swam in and drank the water. Now you can read the history. Entertaining, succinct, funny, fast paced and illustrated with photos and maps. This book is an excellent read.

If you teach elementary music and want to do so effectively, you should probably purchase this entire series right away. It's incredible! The best part is that each book contains a year worth of units divided into sequential lessons and with specific repertoire (though there is plenty of flexibility if you want to use other repertoire for some parts of lessons). Even if your kids aren't caught up to the sequence (my 5th graders are currently on 2nd grade concepts), the lessons work and are adaptable to your students, your equipment, your classroom, your administration, and your overall situation. These books are an amazing resource for elementary music teacher and something that the elementary music world has been lacking for much too long. The lessons can also serve as an outline that can be supplemented with other activities (concert prep, Orff activities, instrumental performance, etc).

By Murphy Richards This book emphasizes physical wellness in the form of Yoga - a practice for redirecting awareness to the mind and body in a way that brings greater alignment between mind and body. The book shows that the practice of Yoga is conducted through three fundamental elements which are; breathing, exercise and meditation. Types of Yoga i never knew about were mentioned such as Hatha, Power, Yin, Restorative and Art of living Yoga. I was most fascinated by the poses. Few of them like the tree, crow and plank struck me. Overall, one can use the illustrations in this book without difficulty as they are clear and easy to follow.

These info are helpful for me because I am new to yoga and I need some basics before I go to the more complicated ones. What is great about this book is that it is very reader-friendly, very beginner-friendly in fact. I get to know a lot of things about yoga, which I am so interested about. After reading, I felt that I know it so much that I'm ready to start. I also love the fact that I actually learned some easy to follow poses and stretches that I can do anytime--especially since some of the poses are at the beginner level, but I also have to admit that the other poses are quite challenging. The images helped a lot too.
